So,
pecunium has a Cunning Plan.
Microsoft/Lenovo is having a contest for photographers, where they throw them a reasonable amount of money to put together an interesting travel photo assignment, and go, shoot it, and photoblog it.
He's got an idea up:

I think he'd do a fantastic job of this: he's a damned good photographer. (He took the picture I used for this icon, too, actually.)
His travel writing is pretty amazing too.
So's his writing about photography
And, as he says himself, this is his brass ring.
I want to win. No, really. Not would be happy. Not think winning would be swell.
I want it. With that hunger which is a quiet fire in the belly. The kind of thing which ferments in the mind and makes one think of what one could do with it.
It's a really simple contest, one which is tailor made for me. More to the point it's tailor made for me right now. Right now I can afford to win this thing, and in two years it might be much harder.
Also, UK friends please note, I have a fairly good chance of getting myself taken on as tripod hauler, so if he wins, you'll probably be seeing me rather sooner than is otherwise likely. :-)
It's pretty simple: You need to register to vote, but you can opt out of getting emails and stuff, quite easily, when you register. Then you vote. If you're moved to, leave a comment: the top 20 are selected based on votes alone, but the winner after that comes down to convincing the judges that you've got a viable plan and that people will want to look at your pictures and read what you write about the assignment.
If you're feeling really extra-specially wonderful, you could link this in turn. In which case I will love you forever. In case that's any sort of use to you. :-)
