Guy Gavriel Kay reading tonight. It was excellent and I now own a signed copy of Ysabel. I recommend both hitting the readings nearest you (US dates probable but not yet announced) and Guy Kay's work in general.

Also, apparently the first person to blog about the reading and mention that Guy Kay now has a (very attractive) decidedly salt-and-pepper beard gets a prize is in big trouble.

I... never could pass up a dare.

... if he doesn't want it mentioned, maybe it shouldn't be the first hit on a Google image search... (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Guy+Gavriel+Kay&btnG=Search+Images)

Well, he didn't say he didn't want it mentioned, exactly.

just that there would be trouble.

Note strategic use of 'I like trouble or champagne' icon :)

I've liked pretty much all the Kay I've read except for Last Light of the Sun, which I found too heavy-handedly PortentiousTM in places. Has he gotten over this bombastic impulse in Ysabel? (I want to know before I shell out the bux for a hardcover, if I run out of reading list before it!)

The reading sounded kind of dangerously PortentiousTM in places, but I'll let you know when I've read the book.

Oh, how lucky to get to a reading - maybe he'll show up somewhere near me. I've had an ARC of Ysabel for some months now, but haven't really talked much about it because I felt like I should wait for it to be released.

The only Kay I'm not really sure of is Last Light of the Sun, but I found Ysabel a delightful book - it's a different Kay in many ways, but at the heart it's all I love about his writing. And I also love it because of two particular characters.
