For the Due South fans:

Spotted at
fajrdrako's building.
For
angevin2, because I loff her and think of her when I see things of this nature:
Spotted at the Experimental Farm's Rose Garden.
And as the roses are mostly over for the year, here's what it looks like in bloom
A pair of shoes I am considering purchasing, as I saw Lisa-the-Feet today and she tells me I must have shoes with a) a rocker sole, which are b) not too rigid and c) have arch support, and I feel that they ought to d) not look like big glumphy sneakers.
Your opinions are solicited.
Tomorrow I go check out Glebetrotters to see what they can do me in an acceptable shoe to spend the next three-four months in.
She also tells me I am to stick adhesive fuzzy splint-y stuff on the sole of my foot daily (
torrain said "your feet have soft coasters, like a sofa!"), I am not to hike or do exercises that involve standing with weights in my hands or wear high heels until spring.
I am surly and disconsolate. If I have to wear Sensible Shoes, I want to be out there covering ground in them.
*grouses*
Still. If I behave myself I may yet escape orthotics and a lifetime of Sensible Shoes. And thanks to a friend currently in the UK, my Aigles will be here soon, and Lisa-the_Feet tells me these ought to be quite acceptable for winter, and later for hiking.
So aside from the fact that I'm being a Whiny Bitch in the first place (I'm not allowed to exceed 5k a day! OH THE HORROR!), life could be worse.

Date: 2007-09-20 04:00 am (UTC)... anyway, as disconsolate as you are? Let me just say, from the position as someone who is going in the wrong direction on that equation, it will totally be worth it in the long run! I can occasionally post helpful things about how I've discovered that I can't get orthotics into my favorite pair of shoes because they have a lipped sole, if that would help your resolve.

Date: 2007-09-20 04:13 am (UTC)For me it's not being able to wear whatever sorts of shoes I want. I'm vain of my feet, what can I say?
I totally know it'll be worth it, I just can't shake this weird fear that there won't be along run and This Is It.
What's wrong with yours, if one may ask?

Date: 2007-09-20 04:30 am (UTC)It really, really bugs me, because I'm prohibited walks at ALL, let alone hikes, for two months. And also? Prohibited sandals! And heels! Definitely prohibited sandal-heels, and I have an awesome pair of Dansko ones in green that I was wearing a lot.
They tell me that, if I'm lucky, stretching it several times a day for the next x months, and making sure to do all my physical therapy, I might someday be able to leave the orthotics out for a day or two without pain. SUCK.
I was always vain of my feet, too; I had extreme turnout, because of the pelvis problem, which I knew, but I have high, high arches, and excellent feet for exercising, and for balance, and for hiking, and things. And now? Clunky shoes, orthotics, and no hiking or anything!
I'm surprisingly perky about it, really, but I think that's mostly because they've finally figured out what's wrong, which means that someday, when the orthotics arrive in the mail, I may reach a point where I'm not in pain all the time.

Date: 2007-09-20 04:39 am (UTC)Right. I'll stop whining now.
I had plantar fascitis at one point, but it was minor enough that I just had to pick things up with my toes for a while (I spent a summer barefoot pulling grass with my toes)
And yeah, a real diagnosis is a great relief. I hope you get to where there's no pain, and soon, too.
*sigh* I was immature and defiant today and overwalked. In bad shoes.
Starting tomorrow, no more of that stuff.

Date: 2007-09-20 09:25 am (UTC)Also, don't forget you can get some good supportive sole inserts (not orthotics, the high quality mass-produced kinds) that will slip into various shapes of shoe, along as the shoe itself has clearance up top.

Date: 2007-09-21 03:04 am (UTC)Er, yeah.
Also, the rose nameplate puts me in mind of my visit to Hatley Castle last summer, as the rose garden there had many similarly interestingly named bushes - which I neglected to take pictures of, overall. But then, my friends and I were there for the place's fannish associations; the gardens turned out to be an unexpected bonus.
